Madagascar is one of the most unique places on earth. Close to 90 percent of the plant and animal species here are endemic to the island. We’ll search for lemurs, take a journey down the avenue of the Baobabs, and taste Malagasy cuisine and its Asian, African, and French influences all on this small-group adventure.

Detailed itinerary:

October 29 – Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

Today you land at the international airport of Tana in Madagascar. Tana has been the home of Malagasy power for three centuries and there’s history and culture to discover, as well as some unexpected wildlife options. After all the formalities and money exchange your English-speaking tour guide will welcome you. You will then be transferred via private ground transportation to your hotel, which is located in the heart of the city center.

October 30 – Day 2: Antananarivo – Flight to Morondava – Kirindy

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport of Antananarivo to take a short flight to Morondava. After landing, you will head to Kirindy (45 miles) via private ground transportation. Several stops are planned to stretch your legs and admire the beautiful landscapes of the western part of Madagascar. Before dinner, you are invited to make a nocturnal visit to the reserve of Kirindy, a true wildlife oasis. (B)

October 31 – Day 3: Kirindy

After breakfast, you will visit the reserve of Kirindy and meet the famous Cryptoprocta ferox also known under the name of Fossa, many species of lemurs like the sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi), red-fronted brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus rufus), several species of couas (Coua cristata and couas gigas), the Paradise flycatcher, the famous Narrow-striped mongoose (Mungotictis decemlineata decemlineata). In terms of flora, you will find baobabs, young palissandres, and more. (B)

November 1 – Day 4: Kirindy – Morondava 

After Lunch, you will drive to Morondava (45 miles). On the way, you can make a stop at the Loving Baobab trees which are twisted together like two lovers. At the end of the afternoon, you will pass by the famous avenue of the Baobabs, where you will be able to feel the mystical atmosphere which reigns under the Malagasy sky. You should not miss a picture of the “Grandidieri adansonia”, the biggest and most famous of of the seven species of baobab trees in Madagascar. The sunset here offers not only beautiful photo motifs, but also a magnificent color show. (B)

November 2 – Day 5: Morondava- Flight to Tana

Today, you will bid farewell to the perfume Island and be transferred to the airport for your short flight back to the capital. After landing you will be transferred to your hotel via private ground transportation. The rest of the day is at leisure for shopping, tasting, and sightseeing. (B)

November 3 – Day 6: Departure

Today after breakfast, you will bid farewell to Red Island and be transferred to the airport via private ground transportation for your flight back home or to Johannesburg for the 12-day South Africa Safari Adventure. We hope you enjoyed the adventure to Madagascar. Veloma! (B)
